Prepare Your Site:
Sheds need a level site. You can prepare your shed site to give your shed a longer life and prevent problems caused by rotting and moisture. Spending some time now to prepare the site will require less maintenance in the future. On many lots, this will require some digging to eliminate grades and humps. Setting your shed on a stone base prevents wood rot by keeping the foundation skids and joists dry. All of our sheds are built on pressure treated 4" x 4" skids for a firm and rigid flooring foundation. Crushed stone is relatively inexpensive, easy to install, and provides excellent drainage. A 3/4 " crushed, blue stone works well for a shed base.
- 3/4" crushed stone, 3-4" deep, 12”-18” larger than the size of the shed. This will allow for better drainage around the perimeter of the shed by keeping water from splashing up onto the shed walls.
- To prepare a gravel base, remove the sod from an area slightly larger than the shed, level the site by removing dirt where necessary, and spread the gravel to a depth of three to four inches. Tamp the gravel down with a piece of 4-by-4 or metal tamper until it is evenly distributed and the site is flat and level.
- Skirting your stone base with 4x4 lumber, railroad ties or cement blocks will keep the stone from spreading into your lawn and create a neater appearance.
- Concrete slab - 3-4" thick.
